I have played golf ever since I was three years and played the sport competitively for more than 15 years. I have competed at the highest amateur level in South Africa, competing against some of the best golfers in the country. Since I grew up in the competitive golf world many of my personality traits are a direct result of me consistently competing at a high level.

Playing highly competitive golf taught me the value of hard-work and discipline in order to achieve a goal. In addition to this, it forced me to become aware of my emotions and how to control them in a multitude of situations. This allowed me to cultivate a strong ability to thrive in high pressure situations.

Playing high level golf for so many years has allowed me to play with a wide range of people spanning various industries and levels. This has developed my ability to communicate effectively with a people from various backgrounds.

BSc Chemical Engineering

2017 - 2020

University of Cape Town

Cape Town, South Africa

After finishing my high-school career I pursued a Bachelor of Science in Engineering in Chemical Engineering at the University of Cape Town which I graduated from with distinction. The content of the degree focussed on process design and optimisation based on fundamental thermodynamic and physics theory. My academic performance in the degree earned me recognition in the form of being on the Dean's Merit List, invited to the Golden Key International Honour Society and receiving the Smuts Hall Wardens Award for Academic Excellence.

During my degree I specialised in chemical catalysis, which focusses on the optimisation of reaction process. Exposure to this field allowed to refine my mathematically modelling skills. My final year thesis investigated the feasibility of combining chemical and biological reaction systems into a single tandem system. This project allowed me to use my skills in modelling and coding to create regression algorithms to complete the investigation.

Outside of academics, I was a very active member of my residence, Smuts Hall. I was a part of the committees which organised orientation week activities for incoming first year students and keynote evening where we organised for external people of prominence to give a talk to members of the house. In addition to this, I was a mentor to first year students both within Smuts Halls and the UCT Chemical Engineering department helping them adjust to university life. I was also a member of the UCT Golf Club and Engineers without borders.

Junior Process Engineer

Jan 2020 - Feb 2020 (2mo)

G4 Engineering and Project Services (Pty)

Johannesburg, South Africa

I served as a Junior Process Engineer at G4 Engineering and Project Services (G4 EPS) during a summer vacation of my chemical engineering degree. G4 EPS are a specialised mining consulting firm based in Johannesburg and the scope of my role as a Junior Process Engineer was to complete various feasibility calculations. This included sizing and costing various pieces of mining equipment, completing mass and energy balances across multiple processes, and creating process models.

I completed these engineering calculations and modelling for three different sections of a platinum recovery process. As required of the role, I learnt how to build 3D models of equipment in AutoDesk Inventor and was able to produce 3D models of the pieces of equipment which I designed.

Undergraduate Mentor

Jan 2018 - Dec 2019 (2yr)

Chemical Engineering Department at the University of Cape Town

Cape Town, South Africa

During the second and third years of my chemical engineering degree I was a mentor to incoming first year chemical engineering students at the University of Cape Town. My role in this position was to assist first year students with adapting to life in the university environment. Over the two years I spent in this position, I was a mentor to seven students and provided them with tools and techniques which would help them handle the pressure and demands of a chemical engineering degree.

A large portion of the job involved interacting with head of the undergraduate chemical engineering program to ensure a smooth transition for incoming students. Other aspects of the role include providing emotional support and organising orientation events for students.

Vacation Work Engineer

Jul 2018 - Jul 2019 (1mo)

Unilever

Johannesburg, South Africa

During the winter vacation in the 2nd year of my chemical engineering degree, I worked as a vacation work engineering at the Unilever margarine and washing powder plants in Johannesburg. The first portion of the vacation work was to job shadow process engineers and gain an understanding of the processes on both plants and how a process engineer operates.

A large portion of my time at Unilever was spent in the research and development department for the margarine processing plant. As part of the job, in team consisting of other vacation work engineers, I completed a research investigation to improve the efficiency of the process. This was completed by gaining an understanding of the process, developing a process model, and determining which areas can be optimised. As a team, we were able to provide constructive feedback on optimisation possibilities to the plant director.
